Education
The Buchanan County Litter and Recycling Office promotes litter
prevention and recycling programs to every student within the county.
Students receive litter bags, pencils, pencil sharpeners and
rulers.
To encourage students and the schools to promote
anti-litter efforts, the Buchanan County Litter Control and Recycling
office conducts the School Beautiful Program. This program covers
cleanliness, beautification of the school grounds and much
more…
In the fall of 2007, a new program was implemented within the elementary schools-Plastic Bag Recycling Roundup.
Schools compete for the honor of recycling the most Plastic Bag
and prizes.
The annual Groundwater Festival at the Breaks Interstate Park.
Each Fall 6th grade students participate in the
Groundwater Festival held at the Breaks Interstate Park. Stations
are designed to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL’s).
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality along with the
Cumberland Plateau Regional Waste Authority assist the Buchanan County
Litter Control and Recycling Office with planning and implementation.
